New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched 'Gareeb Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan' worth Rs. 50,000 crore to provide livelihood to the migrant labourers in their own villages.

The scheme, launched through video conference from Khagaria district of Bihar, is aimed at boosting employment and livelihood opportunities for migrant workers returning to villages, in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak.

A total of 116 districts of six states have been covered in the plan.

These include Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha.

At least 25,000 labourers will be involved in this Abhiyaan in each district.

In this way about one-third of migrant labourers will be benefitted, the PM said.

Under this Abhiyaan, 25 works in rural areas will be implemented at a rapid pace.

Works include building ponds, construction of local roads and bridges, etc.
