PM Modi outlines five-point proposal for India-US collaboration in education, research

New Delhi/Washington/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday outlined a five-point proposal for energising the India-US collaboration in the education and research sector, during a special event on skilling attended by US First Lady Jill Biden.

The points outlined at the ‘India and USA: Skilling for Future’ event are: -Integrated approach bringing together government, industry and academia -Encouraging exchange of Teachers & Students -Organising Hackathons on various subjects between the two countries -Mutual recognition of vocational skills qualifications -Encouraging visits of people associated with education and research.

The event was held at the National Science Centre in Washington DC.

The event focused on workforce redevelopment across higher education institutions to expand and enhance access to quality education across society.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the numerous steps taken by India to promote education, skilling and innovation. He appreciated ongoing bilateral academic exchanges, and collaborations between Indian and US academic and research ecosystems.

The event was attended by the President of Northern Virginia Community College, President of Association of American Universities, President and CEO of Micron Technology, and students.

Prime Minister Modi in a tweet said he was honoured that the US First Lady joined the event.

"Honoured that @FLOTUS @DrBiden joined us in a special event relating to skill development. Skilling is a top priority for India and we are dedicated to creating a proficient workforce that can boost enterprise and value creation."

The MEA spokesperson in a tweet said: "Together in Skilling for Future. PM @narendramodi & @FLOTUS @DrBiden participated in a unique event focused on promoting vocational education and skill development among youth."

"PM & @FLOTUS discussed collaborative efforts aimed at creating workforce for the future. PM highlighted various initiatives undertaken by India to promote education, research & entrepreneurship."

The US First Lady in a tweet said: “Education is a cornerstone of the bond between the United States and India.

"Today, @narendramodi and I heard how our countries are empowering the next generation to learn and grow together to tackle global challenges."
