New Delhi, Jun 29 (IBNS): Apart from meeting his predecessor Atal Bihari Vajapayee, who is undergoing treatment in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid foundation stone for a new block in the hospital on Friday, media reports said.

Modi laid the foundation stone of National Centre for Ageing at AIIMS in New Delhi.

The PM has inaugurated a tunnel which will connect the main building to its trauma facility.

Speaking at the inauguration, Modi said: "In the last 4 years, healthcare has been given priority and a new directive has been given to provide modern health care to the people of the country."

The PM has been quoted by NDTV, "We want to provide the best healthcare to our people at the lowest possible cost. We have proposed and approved more numbers of AIIMS than it was done in the past 70 years."

Vajpayee is undergoing treatment for his urinary tract infection.

The former PM was admitted to AIIMS in early June.
