PM Narendra Modi turns 74 today; BJP leaders extend warm wishes

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating his 74th birthday on Tuesday, September 17.

President Droupadi Murmu, chief ministers of several states, and leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party have extended their best wishes for his health and well-being.

"Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji on his birthday. On the strength of your personality and work, you have provided extraordinary leadership and increased the prosperity and prestige of the country," the president said in a post on X in Hindi. I wish that your innovative efforts with the spirit of nation first pave the way to make India a developed nation. I pray to God that you live long and always remain healthy and happy," President Droupadi Murmu wrote on social platform X.

Born on September 17, 1950, in Mehsana, Gujarat, Narendra Damodardas Modi has risen from modest beginnings to become one of India's most prominent political figures.

After serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat for three consecutive terms from 2001 to 2014, where his leadership spurred economic growth and governance reforms, Modi transitioned to the national stage.

He became India's Prime Minister in 2014 and is now serving his third term in office.

To mark his 74th birthday, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 2.6 million houses under the PM Awas Yojana in Gadakana, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

He will also visit the Gadakana slum for a brief stay, where he will interact with beneficiaries of the housing initiative. Later, at Janata Maidan, he will launch the Subhadra Yojana.

Italian PM Meloni wishes Modi

In a post on X, she said, "Happy birthday to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. I am sure that we will continue to strengthen our friendship and collaboration between Italy and India, to face together the global challenges that await us".

BJP leaders hail PM Modi's 'visionary' leadership on his birthday

Leaders praised Modi as a 'decisive' and 'visionary' leader, describing him as an 'inspiration for peace and empathy' worldwide. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also conveyed her birthday wishes, expressing hope for stronger bilateral ties between India and Italy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Modi has linked everything with his vision of ‘New India.’ “With his strong will and determination for public welfare, he has made many seemingly impossible tasks possible and has set new records for poor welfare,” Shah said in a post on X.

"In Narendra Modi ji, the country has got such a decisive leader, who has worked to bring about a change in the lives of the deprived by bringing them into the mainstream, starting from the security of the country. Along with increasing the self-esteem of the countrymen, the global outlook towards India has also changed under his leadership. Modi ji, who has increased the prestige of the country from the depths of the sea to the heights of space, is an inspiration for peace, compassion and empathy all over the world," Shah added.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 74th birthday. "Warm birthday wishes to the visionary leader & great son of Maa Bharati, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji." he wrote on social media platform X.

BJP President JP Nadda also wished PM Modi, “I extend my heartiest congratulations on his birthday to respected Shri @narendramodi ji, the successful Prime Minister, who is dedicated every moment to realizing the mantra of 'Antyodaya', dedicated to the service of the nation and the upliftment of the people.

"Under your leadership, our goal of service, good governance and development is taking a concrete shape. The goal of building a 'developed India' has become the resolve of every person. Your leadership and guidance is always an inspiration for millions of BJP workers. I pray to God for your long life and good health. Best wishes! #HappyBdayModiji.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also wished PM Modi: "My birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wish him good health and long life," Shinde said.

BJP’s Mandi Lok Sabha MP and actress Kangana Ranaut posted a picture with Modi on her Instagram Stories and said: “Happiest birthday to the greatest leader".

As part of his birthday celebrations, Modi's visit to Odisha will also include the inauguration of the Subhadra Yojana, a welfare scheme offering Rs 10,000 in annual financial aid to over one crore underprivileged women.
