Guwahati, Jun 7 (IBNS): The Meghalaya police arrested an Assam based cashew nut trader,  who scripted his own kidnapping plot, from Baghmara area in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district on Thursday night.

The Meghalaya police and their Assam counterpart had also recovered Rs 4.48 lakh from the trader house at Hatsingimari in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district along Assam-Meghalaya border.

According to the police, the trader named Samirul Islam had plotted his own kidnapping with the help of his family on May 31 last and created a story that, he was kidnapped with Rs 5 lakh.

The family members of the trader had lodged an FIR at Dalo police station in South Garo Hills district and police had registered a case.

On Jun 6, the Meghalaya police had spotted the trader, while he was walking suspiciously along the roads at Baghmara area in South Garo Hills district and police nabbed him.

During interrogation, Samirul revealed that, he scripted his own kidnapping plot and he left the money at his home and went into hiding.

During searching, the police had recovered Rs 4.48 lakh cash from the trader’s home.

Meanwhile, police had arrested the person.

“As per the family members, the trader was allegedly kidnapped at Dalo area in Meghalaya. A case was registered following the FIR lodged by the family members of the trader. We had recovered the trader and he said that, he had a sum of Rs 4.50 lakh. But we had recovered Rs 4.48 lakh from his residence during search operation. His relative members said in the FIR that, unknown person had kidnapped the trader. But during preliminary investigation we found that, he was hiding,” a police officer said.
