Police arrest six people with alleged terror links from Assam’s Barpeta district

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam police arrested six people for alleged links with Bangladesh based terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (Ansar-al-Islam) which has affiliation to Al Qaeda in Indian Sub-continent (AQIS).

Police arrested the persons from Sarukhetri, Howly, Dhanbandha Goroimari and Barpetaroad area in Assam’s Barpeta district on Friday night and Saturday.

Amitava Sinha, Superintendent of Police of Barpeta district said that – “We have arrested six persons for their link with Bangladesh based Islamic terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team.”

“They were trying to radicalize a few more people of the district. We have recovered 15 mobile phones, 20 SIM cards, some literature from their possession and these are being examined,” the police officer said.

The arrested persons were identified as Mufti Suleman Ali, Jahidul Islam, Saddam Hussain, Rasidul Islam, Musaraf Hussain and Moqibul Hussain.

The SP of Barpeta district said that the arrested people were produced before the court on Saturday and were sent to 10 days of police remand.

Earlier last month, Assam police arrested five people including a Bangladeshi national linked with the Jihadi outfit.
