Police arrested 10 persons in connection with APDCL’s job scam

Guwahati: As many as 10 persons were arrested in connection with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL)’s job scam.

The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell and Guwahati city police jointly carried out an operation and arrested 10 persons including the Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

A case (no 04/2021) under Section 120(B)/420/468/471 of IPC and R/W Section 7/13(b) of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 was registered at Vigilance police station and five teams of Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell with the help of Guwahati city police raided in many areas and arrested 10 persons.

The arrested persons were identified as Dipankar Dihingia, Dulumoni Deka, Farha Alam, Jayanta Deka, Kankan Sarma, Kaushik Das, Sasanka Saikia, Tridip Sara, Babilon Kakati and Biswajit Barman.

“Information was received from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on September 15 this year stating that an informant knew about the illegalities and irregularities that happened durin the recruitment conducted by APDCL. The informant stated that as per the decision of meeting held between Gauhati University and APDCL at Bijulee Bhawan in the month of August this year, the Chief General Manager (HRA), APDCL had submitted 1.80 lakh original answered OMR sheets in connection with OMR based written examination conducted by APDCL for the post of Office-Cum-Field Assistant, Sahayak and Light Vehicle Driver of APDCL. The examination was held on 17-02-2019 and 28-04-2019 and same was handed over to the Gauhati University authority on 24-08-2021,” said in a press statement released by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell.

In the press statement also stated that, it was alleged that on the date of meeting with APDCL and Gauhati university at Bijulee Bhawan, Guwahati, where Sasanka Saikia and Himangshu Kumar Das agreed to qualify one candidate for exchange amount of an amount of Rs 3 lakh for qualifying in the written test.
