Popularise Urdu, the beautiful language of the masses : Governor Dr Najma Heptulla
Imphal, Feb 28 (UNI)Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla on Thursday said Urdu language should be popularised even more for its beauty and cultural value.
Speaking at an interaction organised by National Council for Promotion of Urdu language (NCPUL) at Hotel Imphal, Dr Heptullah said it is a wrong notion that Urdu is a language of the Muslims.
The language became popular during the Mughal period as the soldiers in across the sub - continent used to communicate with each others.
She called upon the Council to take up practical works so that those learning Urdu can have adequate income.
"There are so many people who can speak Urdu but can’t write. People should be encouraged to learn the script, and if proper programmes and policies are taken up the language can become the language of the people," she said.
She also appealed to the Council to make the journals published by it available for the masses.
The time has come for the language to emerge from the religious cocoon and spread out to the masses she asserted. People from different linguistic and religious backgrounds should stop confining to learning a specific language and all should be encouraged to take a practical approach in education and learning any vocation, she added.
Dr Aquil Ahmad, Director of the Council said Urdu mobile apps have been launched and many apps and online dictionaries are in the pipeline.
He appealed to all to take full benefits of the assistance provided by the Council for publication of books and learning Urdu.
Dr Kalimullah, Research officer said the interaction was carried out with centre in charges of Urdu, Arabic, CABA- MDTP of Manipur to help them popularise Urdu.
The NCPUL is the only body working for furtherance of cause of Urdu language. In order to enable the people learn the language the Council is running different courses like one year diploma in computer application and business accounting and multilingual DTP.
It is also conducting courses in calligraphy, graphic design, Urdu language, functional Arabic, Persian language. About 1,41,683 students have enrolled themselves in 252 districts of 25 states.
The Council is running 13 Urdu centres , three Arabic diploma, nine Arabic language and 30 CABA MDTP courses in Manipur.
The focus of the interaction was to inform about the schemes of the Council, understand problems of the people. People in north east, Andamans and Nicobar, Goa are not taking full benefit of the Council.
Intekhab Ahmad, Research Officer briefed about the activities of the Council. A review meeting with the Chief Secretary of Manipur and other concerned officers to know the progress of Urdu in Manipur will also be held tomorrow.
