President, VP condemn Assam massacre

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday condemned the attack on Adivasis by Bodo militants in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.
In his message to Assam Governor P.B. Acharya, the President has said “I am extremely saddened to learn about the cowardly attack by Bodo militants on the villagers in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur district of Assam in which a number of persons lost their lives and some others sustained injuries."
 
"I strongly condemn the killings. Such acts of terror and violence must be put down with a firm hand. I call upon authorities concerned to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice at the earliest. I urge the State Government to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured," he said.
 
"In this moment of grief, please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured persons," Mukherjee expressed. 
 
Vice President M. Hamid Ansari also condemned the heinous killing of innocent civilians in Assam. 
 
He has called for firm and urgent action against the culprits and also for an immediate end to this senseless violence. 
 
The Vice President has expressed grief at the loss of precious lives. He has conveyed his deep condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
 
The attack on Adivasis of Assam left 62 of them butchered on Tuesday, triggering an ethnic tension and reprisal killings and police firing claiming more lives as the toll rose to 79 on Thursday.
