Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tributes to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat
Ramallah, Feb 10 (IBNS): Visiting Palestine for the first time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to country's former leader Yasser Arafat.
Modi visited and laid a wreath at the mausoleum of the iconic leader of Palestine.
Modi also called him as one of the greatest world leaders.
" Abu Ammar was one of the greatest world leaders. His contribution to Palestine is historical. He was a good friend of India. I paid tributes to him in Ramallah," Modi tweeted.
Modi is currently visiting Palestine.
He is the first Indian PM to make an official visit to the country.
During his visit, Modi flew in a Jordanian army helicopter straight from Amman to Ramallah.
He was received in Palestine by his counterpart Rami Hamdallah.
Arafat had served as the president of Palestine for eight years until his death on November 11, 2004.
