Kolkata, Apr 7 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing a rally in the state and said her Trinamool Congress is performing 'scientific corruption'.

"Had heard of scientific rigging when the Left was in power. Now under TMC there is scientific corruption. An example was seen in Kolkata," Modi said.

Attacking Banerjee and her party Trinamool Congress or TMC, Modi said: "TMC means terror, maut (death) and corruption."

Referring to the Saradha scam, he said: "Great injustice was done to the poor of West Bengal. Can you forget the Sharda scam. Poor people lost their money."

He said the 'glory' of Bengal has been destroyed by the former Left Front government and now the TMC-led government in the state.

Attacking the CM over the recent collapse of an under-construction flyover in state capital Kolkata, Modi said: "Whenever a disaster occurs  and a headman reaches spot then the first act is to arrange for rescuing the injured persons and then sending them to the hospital for treatment and saving their lives. But the first thing Didi did was to say that the tenders were awarded during the regime of the Left Front government."

" In case, you went to inaugurate the same flyover after it was completed then would you have said that the tender was awarded by the earlier Left regime?" Modi said.

At least 27 people were killed as the flyover collapsed in north Kolkata's Girish Park area last Thursday.

The first phase of polling to elect a new Assembly in the state was held on Apr 4.

Mamata Banerjee and her TMC had formed the government in West Bengal after winning the polls last time in 2011 and thus ended the 34 years Left rule in the state.
