Promoter shot dead in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jan 9 (IBNS) : A building promoter  was shot dead by an acquaintance in south Kolkata's Park Circus area  on Tuesday morning, leading to a mob violence, reports said.

According to reports, Atikur Rehman, the victims was shot at point blank range just behind a popular shopping mall. He succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Eyewitnesses say Atikur Rehman and Sheikh Idrees, reportedly another businessman,  were having an argument in front of the former's house near Shamshul Huda Road behind the shopping mall, when Idrees suddenly opened fire.

Idrees fled the crime scene immediately before a large crowd gathered there and went on a ramapage.

The crowd attacked the the office Idrees, which is located in the area and smashed the walls down. The attackers also set afire a bunch of papers they took away from the office.

A  large police contingent was rushed in to control the situation.

The alleged culprit is absconding.
