Pune Porsche car accident: Driver was offered cash by teen's parents to take the blame, say police

Pune/IBNS: The parents of the 17-year-old, who is accused of running over two techies in Pune, had offered cash to a driver to take the blame, media reports said.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the parents had attempted to switch drivers to prevent the teen from landing in trouble.

Kumar said as quoted by NDTV, "It is true that at the start the driver had said that he was driving the car. We are investigating this part and also under whose pressure the driver made that statement we are investigating it. Effort was made to change the driver during that period. We are investigating this also."

"We have the CCTV footage of him drinking liquor in the pub. The point of saying this is that our case is not alone depending on the blood report we have other evidence also. He (the minor accused) was in his senses.

"It was not as if all of them were so drunk that they could not understand anything. They had full knowledge that due to their conduct, an incident like section 304 cab happen."

A man and a woman, riding a motorbike, were killed when the car, driven by the 17-year-old, hit their vehicle in Pune's Kalyani Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday.

The Juvenile Justice Board bail granted him within 15 hours of the accident after he was asked to write an essay on road accidents, prompting nationwide outrage.

Apart from a personal bond, a surety, and a 300-word essay on road safety, the boy, the son of a prominent Pune builder, was asked to visit the regional transport office, study all rules and regulations, and give a presentation.

However, the most shocking is a claim that the cops were more interested in 'investigating' Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta - the 24-year-old software professionals who were killed.

The accident occurred at 3:15 am when the two deceased techies, Anish Awadiya and Ashwini Costa, were returning home with friends on motorcycles after partying at a club.

The two riders were flung into the air under the impact of the crash, causing them to land on another car. They died instantly. After hitting them, the car crashed into the pavement and came to a halt, said the report.

Videos on social media showed a group of people thrashing the minor as he tried to come out of his mangled car.

At 17 years and 8 months old, the teenager is four months short of the legal age for driving and the legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25 years.

The father of the Pune teenager had been remanded in police custody for two days by a sessions court in Pune on Wednesday.

The realtor had been charged under Sections 75 (wilful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses) and 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
