Punjab: 21 die after suspected consumption of spurious liquor, CM orders magisterial enquiry

Chandigarh: At least 21 people after they were suspected to have consumed spurious liquor in Punjab.

The people are suspected to have consumed spurious liquor in Amritsar, Batala and Tarn Taran areas of the state.

On Friday, five more people died in Batala, taking the toll in the city to seven, while one person has been referred to Civil Hospital, Batala in critical condition, reports The Tribune.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has ordered magisterial enquiry into the incidents.

"I have ordered a magisterial enquiry into suspected spurious liquor deaths in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. Commissioner, Jalandhar Division will conduct the enquiry and coordinate with concerned SSPs and other officers. Anyone found guilty will not be spared," Singh tweeted.
