Pvt company not returning data of 45 lakh ex-servicemen after completing contract
New Delhi/IBNS: An FIR has been lodged against a private company for allegedly not returning a database containing personal information of 45 lakh former defence personnel after completing a contract for ECHS smart cards, a Hindustan Times report said.
Reportedly, the FIR has been lodged with Delhi Police after an RTI application and subsequent follow ups by whistleblower Commodore Lokesh Batra (retd).
The company known as Score Information Technology (SITL) was booked on December 19 last for not returning the personal data of 45 lakh former servicemen, for whom it prepared cards for Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), the report added.
The Defence Ministry has alleged that the company was given a contract for five years in 2010 to prepare the smart cards, but did not return the database, source code, keys and computer applications necessary to make changes in the information, after the contract expired in 2015, the RTI file notings show.
The ministry has claimed that SITL has not confirmed that it is not holding the information.
SITL has strongly denied the allegations after it received the legal notice, the report informed.
