Rahul Gandhi compares RSS to Muslim Brotherhood, BJP hits back
London/New Delhi, Aug 24 (IBNS): Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi compared the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to the Muslim Brotherhood, prompting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to call the Congress president 'immature'.
Gandhi also criticised Narendra Modi's foreign policy and claimed that the Chinese are still present in Doklam.
The Bhutan-India-China tri-junction in Doklam had witnessed military standoff for several months as the region is a disputed territory claimed by both Bhutan and China.
The Indian Army personnel had earlier reached Doklam to stop China from building a road.
China had accused India of trespassing into its territory and demanded the withdrawal of troops leading to a prolonged standoff.
While India and Bhutan had claimed that the land belongs to the tiny Himalayan kingdom and that the Indian troops are there at the request of Bhutan, China earlier warned that it will not accept any dialogue till Indian soldiers pull out from Doklam.
Attacking Narendra Modi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the Prime Minister does not follow a 'deeply thought out strategy' in dealing with Pakistan.
"There is no deeply thought out strategy by PM Modi when it comes to Pakistan," Gandhi said.
Speaking at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London, Gandhi said: "Doklam is not an isolated issue. It was a part of a sequence of events, it was a process. Prime Minister is episodic. He views Doklam as an event. If he was carefully watching the process, he could've stopped it.The truth is the Chinese are still in Doklam today."
Attacking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Gandhi said it is trying to change the nature of India.
"RSS is trying to change the nature of India. Other parties haven't tried to capture India's institutions. RSS's idea is similar to the idea of Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world," he said.
Targeting the Central government, Gandhi said: "If you understand deeply the design of India, you will see that we are punching below our weight. I don't see India maximising it's power."
"By creating divisions between 1.3billion people, India's strengths are reduced," he said.
The BJP was quick in responding to Gandhi's comments and even called him 'immature'.
BJP leader Sambit Patra on Friday attacked Rahul Gandhi for comparing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh with the Muslim Brotherhood and said the Congress President has 'no maturity and understanding' of India.
Muslim Brotherhood is a transnational Sunni Islamist organization founded in Egypt by Islamic scholarand schoolteacher Hassan al-Banna in 1928.
The organization gained supporters throughout the Arab world and influenced other Islamist groups such as Hamas. The party faced periodic government crackdowns for alleged terrorist activities
"Rahul ji you have no maturity and understanding of India. You have no facets. The only quality you possess is hatred against PM Modi and BJP," Patra said while addressing a press conference here.
"You have said that the ideology of the government is that of the Muslim Brotherhood? You're a parliamentarian and the president of a Congress party," he said.
