BJP MP files notice to cancel Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership, seeks life-long ban

New Delhi/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey has filed a substantive motion seeking the termination of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s membership, according to media reports.

Dubey has reportedly demanded that the Congress leader be barred from contesting elections for life.

The move comes a day after Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over the recently finalised India–US trade agreement and the Union Budget in Parliament.

Dubey alleged that Gandhi travels abroad and associates with organisations such as the Soros Foundation and USAID, accusing him of colluding with anti-India elements.

Rahul Gandhi’s attack on trade deal

After days of parliamentary deadlock, Gandhi on Wednesday criticised the Centre over the India–US trade pact, accusing the government of compromising national interests and harming farmers’ livelihoods.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi used strong language to condemn the agreement, alleging that the government had “sold India” by opening domestic markets to American goods.

‘Wholesale surrender’

In an emotionally charged speech, the Congress leader questioned the government’s negotiating strategy with Washington.

Referring to the agreement as a “complete surrender”, Gandhi accused the Centre of making sweeping concessions that could endanger Indian farmers by allowing greater access to US agricultural products.

“You have sold India. Are you not ashamed of selling India? You have sold our mother, Bharat Mata,” he said.

Gandhi argued that the deal compromises India’s energy security and agricultural interests. He claimed that if an INDIA Bloc government were in power, it would have negotiated with former US President Donald Trump on equal footing instead of conceding ground.

He further warned that American agricultural goods could flood Indian markets, putting domestic farmers under severe pressure. The textile sector, he said, would also face significant consequences.

Calling the development “a tragedy”, Gandhi said the agreement carries long-term implications for 1.5 billion Indians and reiterated that the country’s economic future, farmers and data security are at risk under the trade pact.
