Rajasthan: Villagers ransack school accusing management of protecting rape-accused teacher

Pali: An irate group of people stormed a private school in Rajasthan’s Pali district and vandalised its premises to confront the school’s management on allegations of hiding a rape accused, media reported.

The angry villagers accused the school’s management of having a role in protecting 23-year-old Ravi Vagoriya, who was employed as a teacher, India Today reported.

Allegedly, Vagoriya raped a four-year-old girl student on September 22, the report said.

Her family claimed that they informed the principal immediately as soon as they learned about the assault but the school management tried to cover up the crime, according to the report.

When the girl’s mother was taking her back from school, she found her bleeding, the report said.

Furious villagers went on a rampage, venting their anger by hurling school furniture and destroying school property.

The report said the manager of the school had to take refuge in a hose nearby to save himself.

Legal proceedings have been initiated, with a case filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused teacher is in custody awaiting additional inquiry.

Sangeeta Beniwal, the Chairperson of the Rajasthan Child Rights Protection Commission, has taken cognisance of the incident. She instructed the District Education Officer and Superintendent of Police to provide a detailed report within three days.
