Lucknow, Sept 5 (IBNS): Giving pace to the transport movement in Lucknow, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh joined Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday to flag off first phase of metro train in the city.

The first phase of the stretch is 8.5 km long.

Metro service will run from Transport Nagar to Charbagh from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

The service will be open for public from Wednesday.

After the metro ride, Rajnath Singh tweeted: "Enjoyed my maiden ride in Lucknow Metro today. Now Lucknow will also be known as 'Metro Ka Shahar'. Thank you E Sreedharan ji & Team LMRC."

He also shared an image of his ride in the train on Twitter.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, however, attacked the current government over the Lucknow Metro inauguration as he posted several images to convey that the major part of the project had been completed during his tenure.

He posted: "इंजन तो पहले ही चल दिया था...डिब्बे तो पीछे आने ही थे. (The engine had already started running, bogies had to follow)."
