Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI): Curfew-like restrictions imposed in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) in Srinagar following a strike called by trade bodies in protest against summoning of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq were lifted on Monday.

All the gates of historic Jamia Masjid were open and security forces and police personnel, deployed to implement restrictions on Sunday, have been withdrawn.

A police official told UNI that there were no restrictions in any part of Srinagar city though security forces remained deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order.

Restrictions were imposed under Section 144 CrPC on Sunday in the areas under the jurisdiction of police Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj and Rainawari in the downtown and SeK in Srinagar.

Beopar Mandal Mahraj Gunj (BMMG), SeK Traders & Manufacturers Coordination Committee & Jamia Market Traders Federation (JMTF) had called for complete shutdown in and around Old City Srinagar on Sunday and Monday.

Shops and business establishments reopened this morning and people were out doing their normal business in downtown and SeK, where traffic was also plying on all routes as security forces and police have removed all road blocks and barbed wire.

All roadblocks, including barbed wire, have been lifted on main Nallahmar road, where traffic was plying normally and shops and business establishments are open.

The gates of historic Jamia Masjid, which were locked, were also reopened.

Security forces and state police personnel, who were deployed in the Jamia market and nearby areas to prevent protests, have been withdrawn. The roadblocks on roads leading to Jamia Masjid have also been removed and traffic was plying normally.
