RJD strongman Shahabuddin's release challenged in Supreme Court

New Delhi, Sept 16 (IBNS) : Rashtriya Janata Dal strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin's release from jail was on Friday challenged in the Supreme Court by the father of three persons he is accused of murdering, reports said.

The move fuelled speculations over the hands of the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government of which the RJD is the major partner.

Senior lawyer Prashnt Bhushan  moved the petition against the release order on behalf of Chandrakeshwar Prasad, whose three sons were allegedly murdered by Shahabuddin.

Shahabuddin, who was in jail for 11 years in connection with multiple cases, was released on bail by the Patna High Court in connection with the murder of a man who witnessed the killing of two brothers in Siwan.

His release triggered criticism of the ruling grand alliance in Bihar with the main opposition, BJP, being most vocal.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said that the law would take its own course in Shahabuddin's case.

Meanwhile, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has blamed the BJP for kicking up controversy over Shahabuddin, saying it's a subject of the court to decide.
