Chennai, Nov 14 (IBNS) : Winding up its five-day-long search and seizure operations, the Income Tax department has claimed to have unearthed cash, valuables and documents related to undisclosed income of approximately Rs. 1,430 crore from individuals and establishments, including those related to jailed AIADMK leader V Sasikala and former aides of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, media reports said.

The raids were conducted in a total of 187 premises.

According to reports, the IT sleuths have  seized Rs 7.14 crore in cash and jewellery valued at Rs 5 crore.

The officials also sai that a substantial amount of diamond jewellery whose value is yet not known has been seized and 16 bank accounts have been frozen till now.

The offices of AIADMK mouthpiece Jaya TV, which is run by people said to be loyal to Sasikala,  houses and offices of Sasikala’s nephew Vivek Jayaraman and his sister, Sasikala’s husband M Natarajan’s house in Thanjavur, and Sengamalathaayar College in Thanjavur, owned by Sasikala’s brother Divakaran, were among the 100-odd premises raided since Thursday morning.

The search operations resumed on Monday after it was temporarily called off on Sunday.

The searches were conducted in connection with unexplained routing of cash after demonetisation through shell companies allegedly connected to Sasikala and her nephew T.T.V. Dinakaran, who heads one of the factions of the ruling AIADMK.

During the raids, property-related documents were seized from the homes of Sasikala's nephew Vivek Jayaraman, MD of Jaya TV, which was suspected to have created shell companies, making dubious investments.
