RS polls: BJP clinches all seats in Rajasthan

New Delhi, June 11 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) put up a strong show in Rajasthan as it won all the four Rajya Sabha seats in the state on Saturday.

The four candidates were Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, OP Mathur, Harshvardhan Singh and Ramkumar Verma.

Naidu thanked people of Rajasthan and said he is looking forward to work with state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

"I thank people of Rajasthan and Looking forward 2 work with Smt.Vasundhara ji for all round development of Rajasthan," Naidu tweeted.

Congress leader Pradeep Tamta was elected to the Upper House of the Indian Parliament from Uttarakhand.

Union Minister Birender Singh and Subhash Chandra won the polls from Haryana.

Subhash Chandra was an independent candidate who was supported by the  BJP.

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Kapil Sibal won the polls from Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party won seven seats in the state.

BJP candidate Nirmala Sitharaman was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. While the other party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was elected from Jharkhand.

Naqvi tweeted: "Elected to RS from Jharkhand. Thanks to @narendramodi @AmitShah @dasraghubar & every BJP & NDA worker."

"AS a RS MP from Jharkhand, all-round development of state & its people will be my priority," he said.

Voting was held for 27 Rajya Sabha seats in seven states as both the ruling BJP and the opposition made all out effort to clinch it in their favour.

In eight other states, 30 candidates have already been elected unopposed to the Upper House of Parliament.

The states where Rajya Sabha polls were being contested are: Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Prades and Jharkhand.
