S Jaishankar meets Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, discuss Afghan situation
New Delhi/UNI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the CICA Ministerial meeting in Nur Sultan, the Kazakh capital, during which they discussed the situation in Afghanistan, and also on cooperation in the SCO and RIC formats.
According to a Russian Embassy press statement on the talks that were held on Tuesday, “Topical issues of the bilateral agenda, as well as international and regional problems, including the situation in Afghanistan and the Asia-Pacific region, were discussed.
“Special attention was paid to cooperation in the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) and RIC (Russia-India-China grouping) formats.”
“The Ministers reaffirmed mutual intention to further intensify the Russian-Indian contacts at all levels,” it said.
Jaishankar, in a tweet had posted about the meeting on Tuesday, to say that the two noted the progress in bilateral relations and exchanged notes on Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific.
“Good to catch up with Russian FM Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the CICA meeting in Nur-Sultan.
“Noted the progress in our bilateral cooperation. Exchanged notes on Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific," he tweeted.
