Sabarimala activist held for 'hurting religious sentiments'
Kochi, Nov 27 (IBNS): Police arrested model-activist Rehana Fathima on Tuesday for hurting religious sentiments with her social media posts, said reports.
Fatima had unsuccessfully tried to enter Kerala's Sabarimala temple on October 19.
In the current case, Fatima is accused of insulting the Sabarimala temple deity Lord Ayappa with a post on Facebook.
The Sabarimala Samrakshana Samithi, an outfit claiming to protect the temple's traditions, had filed the complaint.
On Oct 19, Fathima, along with another woman, had attempted to enter Kerala's Sabrimala Temple, which has now been opened for women of all ages, returned without entering the shrine.
The two women turned back after the priest said he will shut the temple. One hundred and fifty police personnel had escorted the two women to the shrine.
Women aged 10 to 50 were banned from entering the temple for decades as part of the religious practice.
However, protests have rocked the state in recent times over the verdict with demonstrators not supporting the order of allowing menstruating women from entering the temple.
