Sanjeev Khanna has confessed complicity in Sheena Bora murder: Mumbai Police Chief

Mumbai, Aug 28 (IBNS): Former husband of Indrani Mukherjea Sanjeev Khanna, who has been arrested in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case, has confessed to his complicity, Mumbai Police chief Rakesh Maria has claimed on Friday.
In a late night press conference, Maria said, "We interrogated the third accused (Khanna) and he has confessed to complicity in the crime. We have also recovered her (Sheena's) passport from Dehra Dun, which negates the theory that Sheena Bora went to the US."

Khanna had earlier been remanded in police custody till Aug 31 by the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate court.

Earlier in the day, the police on Friday claimed to have recovered Sheena's body parts  in a forest in Maharashtra Ragad district, reports said.

If the remains are established as Sheena's, the police will have a strong case against the arrested trio- Sheena's mother  Indrani Mukerjea, step-father Sanjeev Khanna and Indrani's driver.

So far the case has been revolving around around statements made by Indrani and the driver.

Remains of Sheena's body in a suitcase were spotted by villagers in Raigad, 84 km from Mumbai, a month after the murder on April 24, 2012. The local police allegedly dismissed the body as unclaimed and buried it without a forensic examination.

Mumbai police said a skull and bones were  found at the spot where the body was buried. A forensic analysis of the remains will be crucial to prove the murder in court.

After Sheena Bora was killed, her face was smashed and her body was stuffed in the suitcase and burnt, the police say.

The day before the murder, the three accused allegedly did a recce of the place where they would dump Sheena's body, say the police.

Indrani Mukerjea, a prominent media executive married to former Star India chief Peter Mukerjee, was arrested on Tuesday after her driver allegedly  confessed to the crime  and led the police to the spot where Sheena Bora's body was dumped.

The driver has allegedly told the police that Sanjeev Khanna strangled Sheena, who had been sedated after she was allegedly forced into a car by her mother.

Sheena Bora was Indrani Mukerjea's daughter from an earlier relationship and  and was dating Peter Mukerjea's son Rahul, her step-brother.
