New Delhi, Jul 13 (IBNS) : Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday thanked the Supreme Court for quashing the President's rule and restoring the Nabam Tuki government in the state, saying the top court has explained what democracy is.

"Thank you Supreme Court for explaining to the Prime Minister what democracy is," he tweeted.

In a major setback to the Centre, a five-judge constitution bench, headed by Justice JS Khehar on Wednesdayquashed the imposition of President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh and ordered restoration of the Congress government, led by Nabam Tuki.

This is the second victory  for the Congress  that recently  won back power in Uttarakhand in a similar court room battle.

Tuki, whose Government was removed by the Arunachal Pradesh Government in January, also took to the tweeter to pour out his joy :"This is a win for democracy. They brought down a democratically elected government. The law has protected us and the country," he said.

Congress spokesperson Randeep S Surjewal said, "Supreme Court re-writes history. Democracy wins with a thumping majority, Modiji's politics of defections & conspiracy fails miserably."

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal also hailed the Supreme Court verdict while assailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi : "SC judgment yet another tight slap on dictatorial Modi govt. Hope Modi ji wud learn n now stop interfering in democratically elected govts," he said in a twitter post.
