Security arrangement for smooth celebration of Puri's Ratha Yatra finalised: Here are key points

Puri/UNI: The authorities on Thursday decided to divide the entire area from Srimandir to Gundicha temple in Odisha's Puri into several sectors and put a senior police officer in charge of each sector for the smooth celebration of the grand Ratha Yatra on July 1 next.

The decision was taken at a meeting of high-level officers held under the Chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police Radhakrishna Sharma (law and order) on Thursday.

The meeting discussed and finalised the security arrangement in and around the Srimandir, Gundicha Mandir, Badadanda and in inner and outer Rath cordons and traffic regulations.

Sharma told media persons that Srimandir alone has been divided into 13 sectors and an adequate number of police personnel with senior officers in charge of each sector will be deployed for Pahandi of the deities to their respective chariots under the supervision of IGP Narasingh Bhol.

Similar security arrangements have been made for the Gundicha mandir where deities will stay during their visit.

S.Debdutt Singh the IGP headquarters along with DIG JN Pankaj will remain in charge of the Rath cordon and pulling of the chariots, he said.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy commander of Srimandir are designated as Nodal officers.

In addition to it, emphasis is given to smooth management of vehicular traffic and to regulating crowd expected in large numbers this year as devotees are allowed to participate in the grand event after a gap of two years owing to the pandemic.

Sharma said pilgrim and vehicular traffic along the city roads connected to Badadanda and main roads to Puri will be regulated through an integrated police control room.

Badadanda is divided into several sectors for effective police work he added.
Satyabrat Bhoi and Amitav Thakur both IGPs and DIG Anirudh Kumar Singh, Puri SP K.Vishal Singh participated in the meeting.
