Seven-day state mourning for Mufti Sayeed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 7 (IBNS) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday declared a seven-day mourning for Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who passed away early today at AIIMS in New Delhi.
The state shall mourn the death of Mufti Sayeed for seven days and there will be a holiday today (Thursday), said a government order issued by Commissioner Secretary, GAD.

79-year-old Sayeed was flown to New Delhi on Dec 24 last year and admitted to AIIMS Critical Care ICU with complaints of fever and neck pain.

The Chief Minister breathed his last around 7.30 am.

Sayeed, 79, is survived by his wife, three daughters including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and a son.

The mortal remains of the Chief Minister will be kept in Srinagar for people to have the last glimpse of their leader. He is likely be buried in his ancestral village in South
Kashmir.
