Kolkata/Murshidabad, Sep 6 (IBNS): At least 10 persons, including few women and children, are missing as a boat carrying about 60 passengers capsized in Bhairab river at Madhya Garibpur area under Domkal Police Station limits in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Thursday late evening, reports said.

According to reports, the country made boat capsized at around 7:30 pm, when it was crossing the river from Hariharpara ferry ghat to Brindabanpur in opposite side.

Large number of passengers of the drowned boat managed to swim to the riverbank while at least 10 others went untraceable following the accident.

"Maximum passengers of the boat either swam to the bank or were rescued safely by the locals when more than 10 persons are missing," a local boatman said.

Later, police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel joined the locals in rescue efforts but due to poor lights, the search operation in the river has been put on hold till Friday early morning.
