Shashi Tharoor summoned to face trial in Sunanda death case, calls charges preposterous and baseless

New Delhi, June 5 (IBNS): After being summoned as an 'accused' in the trial of his wife Sunanda Pushkar's death case, former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said the allegations against him are preposterous and baseless.

Releasing a statement, Tharoor said, "I would like to reiterate my position that I find the charges preposterous and baseless, a product of a malicious and vindictive campaign against me."

However, he assured that he will continue to cooperate in the ongoing investigation.

This comes after Tharoor has been summoned to appear in a special court in the Patiala House Court in New Delhi on July 7.

The special court has taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the Delhi police against Tharoor, media reported.

On May 14, Delhi Police filed the chargesheet in connection with the mysterious death of Tharoor's wife, Sunanda Pushkar, naming him as an abetter, media reports said.

The chargesheet was submitted before Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh  more than four years after Pushkar was found dead in a five star hospital in Delhi.

The same day that the charge sheet was filed, Tharoor had said he will 'contest vigorously' against it.
