Sheila Dikshit agrees to lead Cong battle in UP, Priyanka to have greater role
New Delhi, Jul 5 (IBNS) Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has reportedly succumbed to her party's demand to be its Chief Ministerial face for the upcoming Uttar Ptadesh elections.
According to a NDTV report, 78-year-old Sheila Dikhit has confirmed that she is a top contender for the post and called herself Uttar Pradesh's ‘bahu’.
"If the party wants me to do something, I will," Diskhit, who only a week ago had expressed her reluctance to be the Chief Ministerial face for Uttar Pradesh, said.
Dikshit, who served as Delhi Chief Minister for three terms, is said to have been sounded by the Congress high command for a leading role in Uttar Pradesh, possibly as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
Prashant Kishor, is Congress' strategist for the polls had reportedly suggested that Dixit should be projected as their CM candidate.
Prashant Kishor is said to be the key man behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful campaign during the run-up to the 2014 general elections and was also the campaign strategist for Nitish Kumar during the Bihar polls in 2015.
Reports further said that Priyanka Gandhi will play a huge role in the elections. She had campaigned in the last election in her family's constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi. But this time, she is expected to lead rallies across the state.
A report in The Hindu stated that Congress spokesperson in UP Satya Dev Tripathi said that Priyanka will venture out of Rae Bareli and Amethi, where she has campaigned for Congress in the past, and hold 150 rallies across UP.
