Sikhs For Justice offers money for ardas, exploits poverty after Referendum 2020 fails: Report
Amritsar: Separatist group Sikhs for Justice offered money to anyone who would perform ardas (special Sikh prayer) in Akal Takht for Khalistan on Sunday (Aug 23), according to a report in The Times of India.
The Akal Takht is one of five takhts of the Sikhs. It is located in the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab, India.
In a release issued on Saturday, SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has tried to lure people into offering such arads at Akal Takht by offering $5,000, and $500 at other local gurdwaras, The Times of India reported.
After having failed to garner support for his secessionist movement ‘Referendum 2020’ in Punjab, Pannu had begun offering cash awards to the gullible people to indulge into illegal activities, without making clear possible consequences, the report said.
An intelligence official said Pannu is trying to exploit poverty.
“He is not helping anyone. He is only exploiting poverty since he has failed to exploit sentiments of people here," intelligence sources told the newspaper.
"There is no example of anyone getting any money after his announcements," the source added.
The Indian government earlier banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) for a period of 5 years.
SFJ was formed with Avtar Singh Pannun as its president and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun as its legal advisor.
The SFJ pushes for Sikh Referendum 2020 as part of its separatist agenda.
