SIT dismisses claim on Gauri Lankesh's mother's role in helping them with sketches

New Delhi, Oct 17 (IBNS): Clearing the air, the special investigation team (SIT) probing journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder, has said that contrary to reports, her mother hasn't helped the squad prepare sketches of the suspects.

The clarification came after a Kannada TV channel aired a programme on Monday evening, claiming that Lankesh's mother had helped the SIT sleuths to come up with the drawings.

Rubbishing the reports, a SIT official was quoted by Times of India as saying, "Some news channels are showing that SIT got the sketches made based on some information given by Indira Lankesh, mother of Gauri Lankesh. This is not correct. No such info was given by Indira Lankesh. We once again clarify that the sketches were ma de based on eyewitness account and was corrob orated by CCTV footages."

The said sketches were revealed by the SIT on Saturday.

According to officials, the age group of the suspects are expected to be between 25 and 35.

Lankesh, a popular journalist who took stands against Right-wing ideology, was shot three times by some unknown assailants outside her residence last month.

Lankesh, 55, was the editor of a Kannada weekly Lankesh Patrikewas.

Gauri Lankesh's murder had sparked country-wide protests.
