Srinagar, Apr 24 (IBNS) Amid separatist sponsored strike, recent militant strikes and massive deployments reported from the four districts making up South Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency, poling had a modest start on Thursday.

Security officials declared all the polling stations in the South Kashmir as hyper-sensitive on the eve of polling.

It is pertinent to mention here that recent militant attacks in South Kashmir on political workers left 4 shot dead and over 5 injured. Two militants were also killed in the gun-battle after they struck a NC worker's house where two policemen were killed.

On the same day, another gunfight raged in Srinagar city where two more militants were shot dead.

Talking to IBNS, an official spokesman said that only 0.22 percent voters had come out in Pulwama.

Neighbouring Shopian has recorded a polling of 2.62 percent till 9 am.

However, the twin districts of Islamabad and Kulgam performed better. The poll percentage at 9 am was 6.36 percent for Islamabad and 6.20 percent for Kulgam.
