Social activist Anna Hazare threatens hunger strike over wine
Pune/UNI: Eminent social activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike if the Maharashtra government does not withdraw its decision to allow supermarkets to sell wine.
Writing a letter, the 84-year-old Hazare vowed to begin the strike in his Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahmednagar district from Feb 14 if the demand was not met.
The government decision has been vehemently opposed by the BJP as well as several NGOs.
Critics reasoned that the availability of wine at supermarkets will lead to a drinking habit in youths, resulting in domestic violence.
