Some people are allergic to Ambedkar's name: Tamil actor-politician Vijay's attack on Amit Shah

Chennai/IBNS: Tamil actor-politician Vijay has joined the opposition leaders in slamming union home minister Amit Shah over his Ambedkar remark that has caused a massive row.

In an X post, the TVK president took a veiled attack on Shah calling him "allergic to the name of Ambedkar".

He wrote, "Some people may be allergic to the name Ambedkar. He was an incomparable political and intellectual figure who was held in high esteem by all the people of India who breathed the air of freedom.

"Ambedkar... Ambedkar... Ambedkar... His name May the heart and lips rejoice. Let's keep pronouncing it. We can never allow insults to our political leader. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Victory Party, I strongly condemn the Union Home Minister for insulting the Prime Minister."

Congress has put up an X post where Shah was heard saying in parliament, "It has become a fashion to take the name of Ambedkar. If they (Congress) had taken the name of God that many times, they would have been in heaven for the next seven lives."

Posting the clip, the Congress said, "Amit Shah has said something very disgusting. This shows that the BJP and RSS leaders have a lot of hatred for Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The hatred is such that they are even irritated by his name.

"These are the same people whose ancestors used to burn the effigies of Baba Saheb, who themselves used to talk about changing the constitution given by Baba Saheb. When the public taught them a lesson, now they have become irritated with those who take the name of Baba Saheb. Shameful! Amit Shah should apologize to the country for this."

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya posted on X alleging the Congress shared an edited video on social media to "spread lies".

In the video shared by Malviya, Shah was heard saying, "Why did Ambedkar resign from the first cabinet of the country? Ambedkar repeatedly said he was not happy with the treatment given to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, not in agreement with the government's foreign policy and Article 370. That is why he wanted to resign. He was assured but the promise was not fulfilled. So he resigned out of ignorance."

"B.C. Roy had written a letter to Pandit Nehru that what will happen if eminents like Rajaji and Ambedkar leave the cabinet? In response, Nehru-ji had said Rajaji's exit will cause a bit of loss but Ambedkar quitting won't weaken the cabinet," the BJP veteran said.

Congress distorted my statement, says Amit Shah

Shah has accused Congress of distorting his remarks on Ambedkar amid the huge uproar over the issue.

Addressing a press conference, the BJP strongman said on Wednesday, "My statement in the Rajya Sabha was distorted and misrepresented to the public."

"The Congress party has a tendency to distort statements and create unnecessary uproar," he said launching a scathing attack on the Congress.

Shah said: "They previously edited a statement made by PM Modi and made it public. During the elections, my statement was also edited using AI technology and broadcast across the country."

PM Modi defends Amit Shah

In an all-out attack on his archrival Congress, Modi posted on X, "If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!

"The people of India have seen time and again how one Party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities."

The PM, who is the BJP's de facto supreme leader, said in another post, "In Parliament, HM @AmitShah-Ji exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST Communities. They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics! Sadly, for them, people know the truth!"
