Sonia Gandhi condemns Baghdad attack

Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Sunday condemned the loss of lives in the Baghdad attack which killed at least 79 people.
"Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has condemned bomb blasts in Baghdad which killed 80 innocent people," the Congress party tweeted.
 
"The past week has been terrible for humanity, she said. Expressing deepest condolences to families of those killed Smt. Gandhi called for..the globe to unite, fight and defeat forces of terror and extremism that pose a serious threat to world peace and humanity," read another tweet.
 
At least 79 people were killed as an explosions hit  Iraq's capital Baghdad, media reports  said on Sunday.
 
Several people were present the street when the explosion occurred, reports said.
 
A truck with explosives blew up at Karada district in the country, reports said.
 
Sources told Al Jazeera at least 79 people were killed and 132 wounded in the explosion which targeted a busy shopping area.
 
 The SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based monitoring service claimed that militant group ISIS has taken responsibility for the attack.
 
Another blast occurred at when an improvised explosive device went off in a popular market in the mainly Shia neighbourhood of al-Shaab, Aljazeera reported.
 
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
