Sonia Gandhi pays tribute to Chandra Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, July 23 (IBNS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday paid tribute to freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary.

The Congress party tweeted quoting Gandhi: "Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi has paid tributes to great revolutionary Freedom Fighter, Chandra Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary."

"Remembering him as the brave son of Mother India for whom a progressive & inclusive India free from colonialism stood above anything else...Smt. Gandhi said that, Azad, in his life and death, inspired youth to fight for India's freedom and values that we stand for," the party tweeted.

"His courage and velour is historically exceptional and contribution unforgettable, she underlined," the party tweeted quoting Gandhi.

Azad was born in 1906 and died 25 years later in 1931, self immolating himself with the last remaining bullet in his pistol, after being surrounded by British soldiers. Azad had famously vowed to not surrender to his colonial rulers.
