Sonowal condemns Pengeri killing; directs pinning down the perpetrators

Guwahati, Nov 19 (IBNS) : Terming the Pengeri incident as ‘despicable’ and ‘cowardice’ Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the perpetrators will be pinned down and punished.

It may be mentioned that three soldiers were killed and four critically injured when a powerful blast hit an army convoy at Pengeri in Tinsukia district in a post dawn incident on Saturday morning.

Assam CM said that such an act is a threat to a peaceful society as the government will leave no stone unturned to unleash a combing operation to punish the insurgents involved in killing. It is also an instance of cowardice and the perpetrators will not be let loose as they will be handed unprecedented punishment.

Sonowal said that violence does not lead to solution to any problem. The present State Government after coming to power has been working to expedite an all round development in the State by maintaining a robust law and order situation.

“Some proscribed organisations are hell bound to disturb peace by carrying out subversive activities. Government is committed to foil such forces and stated that Government had already initiated actions to nab the insurgents involved in the killing of soldiers in Pengeri,” Sonowal said.

Moreover, security agencies have already been pressed into service to nail the perpetrators.

Sonowal also directed DGP Mukesh Sahay to rush to spot and take stock of the situation exacerbated by the early morning killing.

DGP and other police officers who camped at Pengeri are maintaining close vigil on the development.

Sonowal, meanwhile, condoled the death of three jawans who laid down their lives and expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He wished a speedy recovery to the injured soldiers.
