A jawan of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) allegedly committed suicide in his official accommodation in the Nanpara area of Bahraich district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Friday.

The sources said Ravi Arya (35), a resident of Rathore village under Chhaprauli police station in Baghpat district, was posted in the 42nd battalion of SSB.

"On Friday morning when Ravi did not come out of the room, his colleagues called him. When he did not respond his colleagues peeped inside his room and found Ravi hanging from the ceiling," they said.

They said the jawans informed the Commandant about the incident.

Circle Officer Rahul Pandey and Inspector Nanpara Mithilesh Kumar Rai reached the spot after getting information.

Inspector Rai said prima facie it seemed that the jawan committed suicide.

"The reason behind committing suicide is not clear. Rahul's family has been informed," he said.
