Amritsar, Jan 24 (IBNS): The Punjab state police has seized 409 unlicensed weapons in the state after enforcement of model code of conduct on Jan 4, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The Punjab Assembly polls are scheduled for Feb 4 where 1,145 candidates will test their fortune.

Meanwhile, the state police have arrested nearly 400 people and seized drugs, liquor and cash amounting to nearly rupees 58 crores, the media reported.

However, the local media said that the recovery has not been linked to any particular political party.

The local media, quoting police sources, reported that Punjab's borders with its neighbouring states will be effectively sealed 72 hours before the polls to prevent transportation of illegal arms, money, etc.
