Tarn Taran, Mar 12 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday announced the candidature of former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief and Istri Akali Dal President Bibi Jagir Kaur from the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency.

He urged the people to teach a befitting lesson to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for taking false oaths on the revered Gutka Sahib.

Addressing a worker rally here, the SAD chief said the decision to field Bibi Jagir Kaur was taken by the party as well as the Sikh Sangat. He said Bibi Jagir Kaur, who had risen up after fighting all odds, would be the voice of the people as well as the Sikh panth in Parliament.

Badal also took on so called Taksali leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura saying the MP did not deem it fit to open his mouth even once in Parliament for five years. “You elected Brahmpura Sahib but he did not raise a single issue of your area or the state in parliament for five years”, he told the people.

The SAD president launched a frontal attack on Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and took him to task for making false promises on the Gutka Sahib. He said never before had any political leader sworn on the Gutka Sahib in a public rally and then gone back on his words as Capt Amarinder had on the issue of complete farm loan waiver as well as ‘ghar ghar naukari’. He said the manner in which the Chief Minister had indulged in ‘guru naal dhokha’ was unacceptable and that the people should teach him a befitting lesson in the parliamentary elections.

Asking the people to compare the complete standstill in governance with the development done during SAD-BJP rule, he said all social welfare schemes had been closed down. He said the government had not paid Rs 100 crore to brides from under privileged backgrounds besides not paying pension of Rs 1140 crore to the aged. He said besides this the government had closed down meritorious schools and Sewa Kendras. “Even the 200 unit free power facility for SC population has been changed in such a manner that they cannot avail of this facility any longer”.

Speaking on the occasion, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the government had promised 60 lakh jobs. “This means it had to give one lakh jobs per month. The only job it gave was to the grandson of former CM Beant Singh”. He said the government was riding roughshod over everyone. Employees protesting for their democratic rights are being beaten. The common man has been forced to cough up an additional Rs 13,000 crore for power”.
