Supreme Court allows Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija to meet her mother in Kashmir

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija to meet her mother in the valley a month after the Centre scrapped Article 370, media reports said.

Iltija in the top court had filed a petition in which she had expressed her worry about her mother's health as she had not met Mufti for a month.

Mufti along with a number of Kashmiri politicians including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have been detained since August 5 when the Centre withdrew the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier Iltija had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said all Kashmiris are caged like animals and denied basic human rights due to the clampdown in the valley.

In another decision, the Supreme Court allowed ailing CPI-M leader Yousuf Tarigami to be shifted from Srinagar to Delhi AIIMS for better treatment. Tarigami is also under house arrest.

The apex court, despite the Jammu and Kashmir administration's denial of permission, had earlier allowed CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury to visit the valley to meet his party colleague but had asked him to stay away from any political activity.

Also the top court had said any Indian citizen can visit Jammu and Kashmir.

The Centre last month bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir (with an assembly) and Ladakh (without an assembly).
