'Thank you JNU' posters waved in Srinagar
Srinagar, Feb 19 (IBNS): Creating fresh controversy, some youths in old Srinagar city on Friday chanted slogans like "thank you JNU, Afzal Guru is our hero†while clashing with police.
According to reports, few youth after Friday prayers assembled outside Jamia Masjid and amid anti-India slogans pelted stones on Indian Forces.
Groups of youth carrying banners that read, “Afzal is our hero” and “JNU Thank You” marched on the roads prompting police to intervene and stop them.
The youths also pelted stones, while police fired tear-smoke shells to disperse them.
Some agitated youths even set the Indian Tri-color on fire.
The clashes between the Indian police and those youths continued for hours disrupting traffic in parts of the old city.
“We are here to thankful to JNU students for supporting Kashmir cause. It’s really nice to see some section of people in India supports us,” said a protester.
The JNU is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.
