Three FIRs lodged against Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chief for communal and provocative remarks on NRC in Assam

Guwahati, Nov 16 (IBNS): After the recent controversial provocative comment on the ongoing National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process in Assam made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind president Maulana Sayed Arshad Madani, at least three FIRs have been lodged against Madani on charge of issuing the provocative remarks at various police station in the state.

On Nov 13 last, Madani said while attending a seminar held in New Delhi that, Assam will burn, there will be killings and retaliation, if 50 lakh Muslims are left from the updation process of NRC.

Madani's controversial remarks triggered massive protests in Assam and several organisations have been registered bitter protest against it and at least three FIRs had also lodged against Madani in various places in the state.

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay on Wednesday said that, police is probing Madani’s statement.

“We have received three FIRs against Madani so far and law will take its own course,” DGP Sahay said.

According to the reports, two FIRs have been lodged at two different police stations in Guwahati and one FIR lodged at Tezpur.

At the seminar organised by Delhi Action Committee for Assam held in New Delhi, Madani alleged that, the government wants to create Myanmar like situation by excluding 50 lakh Muslims from the NRC.

“If, 50 lakh Muslims are left from the NRC, then Assam will burn, there will be killings and retaliation,” the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chief said.

On the other hand, All Assam Students Union Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that, Madani’s remark on the NRC is communal and provocative.

“Madani is engaged in the conspiracy to halt the NRC updation process. We demanded the both Centre and state government to take stern action against him,” Bhattacharya said.

The Assam’s students body also demanding his immediate arrest.

Several organisations had staged massive protests against Madani’s controversial comment and burnt effigies of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chief in various parts of the state.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal  warned the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind to refrain from giving communal colour to NRC updation process.

“The state government would not hesitate to take any legal action against those, who trying to halt the NRC,” Sonowal said.
