Three Naga militants nabbed in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Mar 21 (IBNS) : Security forces apprehended three Naga militants in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district on Monday, officials said on Tuesday.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said the Longding Battalion and Changlang Battalion under the aegis of DAO division conducted operations in Zedua village and Changlang town and apprehended one NSCN(U) and two NSCN(R) cadres.

Based on specific intelligence about presence of cadre trying to terrorize and carryout extortion in Zedua village, the Longding Battalion swiftly launched an operation resulting in the apprehension of Self Styled Captain Khampai Wangsu of NSCN(U) with a pistol and live ammunition.

"Post spot interrogation he admitted allegiance to NSCN(U), he further divulged that he has been an active part of the banned outfit since Oct 2001 and has received extensive weapons training for six months at NSCN(U) training camp in Nagaland," the Defence PRO said.

In a similar operation launched by the Changlang Battalion based on specific intelligence about presence of cadres trying to terrorize and carryout extortion in Changlang town, Self Styled Captain Kampong, Revenue secretary (Industries) and Self Styled Private Longkam Tunghang of NSCN(R) were apprehended at Changlang town.

Post spot interrogation both cadres admitted allegiance to NSCN(R).

Self Styled Captain Kampong further divulged that he was previously from NSCN(K) and had defected to NSCN(R) in June 2015 and has been acting as the Revenue secretary (Industries) for the banned outfit, he has under gone weapons training in Myanmar.

The Self Styled Private Longkam Tunghang confessed to joining the banned outfit in August 2016 and has received extensive weapons training for three months at NSCN(R) training camp in Nagaland.

The duo was responsible for extortion activities in Changlang and was planning to extort money from petrol pumps, coileries and tea estates.
The security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.

On the other hand, based on specific information regarding presence of an arms cadre in general area Kohima, Assam Rifles alongwith police representative launched an operation in D Khel village, Kohima on Monday and apprehended  a person alongwith one point 22 mm Rifle, one point 22 mm (GSG5) Rifle, one AK-47, one magazine point 32 mm, 87 live round of assorted ammunition and 10 fired cartridges.

The individual was identified as N Kire, resident of  D Khel village, Kohima District.
