Total lockdown in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad from July 13

Pune, Jul 11 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has ordered to reimpose total lockdown in Pune and the neighbouring twin-city of Pimpri-Chinchwad due to rising number of COVID-19 cases and people violating social distancing norms to contain the spread of the pandemic.

The lockdown, which commences from July 13 would last for 10 days, the Deputy CM announced on Friday late night.

Pune city reported highest single-day spike of 1,006 new coronavirus cases since the Friday evening, taking the number of infected to 25,174, a health official said.

Pune is the second most affected district in Maharashtra after Mumbai. 

Reportedly, all the 42 wards under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have been affected with COVID-19, with all of them reporting over 100 cases. Four wards have over 1,000 cases.

The COVID-19 cases in Pune district have crossed the 25k mark and the death toll surpassed the 1000 mark to stand at 1007.
