Puducherry/UNI: Trade unions on Monday declared that they have called off a proposed 'bandh', which was scheduled for November 27, according to Welfare Minister M Kandasamy.

Kandasamy held a talk with trade union leaders on Monday in which they arrived on an amicable settlement.

According to a release from the office of Kandasamy, the trade union leaders were apprised of the initiatives taken by the administration to set up a welfare board for the unorganised sector labourers.

They were also informed that Rs 1000 towards Diwali gift coupon would be deposited in their bank accounts by Wednesday next and the welfare board would be set up before January 10, next year. Following this, the trade union leaders called of the proposed 'bandh', the statement added.

It may be noted that all trade unions here had called for a 12-hour 'bandh' on November 27 to press the government to set up a welfare board for the unorganised sector labourers and to provide them Diwali gift coupon.
