Srinagar: To prevent road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir, many efforts are being made at the government and private level to prevent these accidents.

76942 road accidents have been recorded in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir during the last 12 years.

In these accidents, 12429 people died while 104983 were injured.

According to data released by the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police, more than 12,000 people died in road accidents in the region from 2010 to the end of 2022.

Keeping this situation in mind, the traffic authorities have taken several measures to encourage drivers to drive carefully, maintain good behavior and take care of other essentials.

Eyesight testing of drivers is also being arranged in most of the programs.

Under Adasi Kadi, a free eye screening and health camp for drivers, was recently organized at the trial ground in central Kashmir's Budgam district.

Drivers from different parts of the district actively participated in the camp.

Local residents were also enthusiastic about the camp.

The camp was jointly organized by MVD (ARTO), Health (CMO) and Traffic Police Department. During the camp, a team of doctors and paramedical staff screened 116 drivers.

During the eye screening and health camp, various medical tests were also arranged for the drivers along with eyesight test by the concerned doctors.

On this occasion, the drivers also participated in the driving trial test after their eye test.

On this occasion, ARTO Budgam Sheikh Manzoor Ahmed thanked all the participants and departments and said that they have provided support in organizing the program.

The large number of people participating in the camp is a positive aspect.

He further informed that every year 1.50 lakh people are injured in road accidents in our country and many people are permanently disabled.

These are alarming figures, he said.

"That is why we have launched a campaign to control road accidents. People are requested to be a part of this campaign," he said.

On the occasion of this event, Deputy CMO Budgam, Dr. AyubFateh and SP Traffic Rural Budgam Tariq Mehmood were also present.

At the local level, such programs are getting a lot of praise.

People believe that due to such an initiative, these traffic accidents can be significantly reduced and the loss of human lives can also be prevented.
